Heartthrob actor Kenny Doughty, best known for his role as DS Aiden Healy in Vera, has finally unveiled his new project that he's been working on since his departure from the TV drama - as well as revealing his exciting new co-star.

The actor had replaced David Leon in season five and quickly became a firm favourite among viewers with his charm and natural acting abilities.

However, his sudden exit took fans and show lead Brenda Blethyn by surprise. Since his departure from Vera last December, Doughty had largely kept a low profile while hinting at an upcoming role.

Now, the star has revealed his exciting new collaboration - a TV drama featuring Death in Paradise and Beyond Paradise star Sally Bretton, the Express reports.

On social media platform X, Doughty shared an ITV poster announcing the cast of the new drama, simply captioning it "Yep."

ITV also posted the announcement, stating: "Secrets are revealed when a family decides to hire extra help... Sir @David_Suchet, Sally Bretton, and @kennydoughty join the new compelling drama, 'The Au Pair', coming soon to @channel5_tv.

"A @MediaPernel and MK1 Studios co-production. Produced in association with ITV Studios."

Regarded as highly anticipated news among fans, many rushed to express their excitement and wishes for Doughty's success as one wrote: "Look forward to seeing that! "

Another replied: "Kenny mate, I've never seen you as an Au Pair. What would Vera think? Good luck."

Sally, who tends to keep a low profile on social media, has not yet commented on her latest acting gig. However, she's also set to resume filming for the forthcoming series of Beyond Paradise, where she appears alongside Kris Marshall.

Before the news broke, Kenny hinted at his comeback in the limelight with an Instagram post hinting he was back on set.

He uploaded a photo showing a Guinness sign at a pub and wrote: "Being very well looked after by the Irish! Loving filming here... crew so welcoming and generous (maybe too much with Guinness)."

"Can't share just yet what I'm filming but sure all will be revealed soon! "
