Vera's Brenda Blethyn 'gobsmacked' as Hollywood icon confesses love for ITV drama

Brenda Blethyn has been left 'gobsmacked' on finding out that a Hollywood megastar is a big fan of Vera and has actually never missed an episode.

No stranger to mixing in A-list circles herself, having won a Golden Globe and BAFTA award and been nominated for an Oscar and an Emmy, Brenda is currently hard at work on the last ever series of Vera, the hit ITV drama that has been her life for the last 13 years. Channel bosses announced in April that the much loved detective series will be wrapping up in 2025, with a 14th series consisting of two final feature length mysteries and, since the news broke, Brenda and Vera co-stars have been seen filming all over the North East.

Last week, production took Brenda to both Glanton in Northumberland and Barnard Castle in County Durham, days after she made Vera super fan Christine Bennett's dreams come true, after the avid viewer had travelled all the way from Australia in the hope of meeting her before filming ended.

Someone else who has been revealed to be a massive lover of all things Vera is none other than movie icon Steve Martin. Steve, famous for roles in the Three Amigos and Father of the Bride, amongst countless other films, waxed lyrical about Vera during an appearance on top rated American talk show Jimmy Kimmel.

Speaking to guest host Martin Short, Steve explained he has watched every single series, with Martin seeming slightly perplexed, until Steve mentioned that Brenda starred in it, which seemed to grab his interest. And now Brenda has bee informed of Steve's dedication to watching Vera by a fan on X, who shared a clip of his interview and told her: 'Watching the Jimmy Kimmel live show on YouTube from a few days back & the guest Steve Martin starts to tell Martin Short the guest host about a great British show he watches called Vera & great actress called Brenda Blethyn, brilliantly random.'

A shocked Brenda was very concise with her response to seeing the video, simply replying: 'Wow' as many others were quick to urge her to watch the clip.

This week Brenda has been seen in a 'mystery' location to film more scenes for Vera series 14 and on Friday is due back in Glanton, after filming was pushed back a day due to the General Election.
