'Very difficult to get promoted' Leeds United transfer warning as Whites decision prompts concern

Leeds United have been warned they face a tough ask to win promotion next season if they let any more of their key players depart Elland Road this summer. While Jack Harrison has returned on loan to Everton, it is the decision to sell Archie Gray to Tottenham Hotspur which has brought concern in some quarters, not least at seeing the homegrown favourite depart, but what that could mean given the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto have been linked with exits.

Leeds ' decision to turn down Brighton and Hove Albion's offer for Georginio Rutter went some way to silence those doubters by reaffirming the club's stance on trying to keep hold of their best talent now the issue of Profit and Sustainability has been resolved by Gray's £40m move to Spurs.

Having added Joe Rodon to their squad already and with more new arrivals expected, Leeds are intent on being promotion contenders, if not title challengers, but until the transfer window closes and the squad is confirmed, there remains some concerns about who else could leave.

It's a point that was reflected on by Gabriel Agbonlahor when discussing the latest at the Whites on talkSPORT. He said; "Listen, you don’t want to lose one of your young talents, do you? But the problems they have financially, not getting promoted affected them.

"They have got to sell. But I am sure Archie Gray, even though he would love to stay at Leeds, wants to go and play Premier League football. It’s like any young player. It might be your team and you are Leeds through and through, but the chance to go and play for a big Premier League club, you can’t turn down.

“Then Leeds have to be very careful, you start selling all their best players, then it’s going to be very difficult to get promoted next season.”
