The vibrant Polish city a £19 flight from Newcastle airport with colourful market square

With all of the miserable weather we've seen recently, we would certainly forgive you for thinking about your next holiday.

And while many will have visions of golden beaches, clear waters and summer sunshine - others may prefer a bustling city break. If the latter sounds like you, then have you ever considered Wroclaw? The Polish tourist hotspot may sometimes be forgotten about, with the likes of Krakow and Warsaw proving popular choices for holidaymakers heading to Polska.

But there's plenty to do and see in Wroclaw - and with cheap flights to the European giant coupled with affordable accommodation, it could be the perfect place to visit during the current cost of living crisis. And what if we told you that you could get to Wroclaw for less than £20 this spring?

Well, according to SkyScanner, a one-way flight from Newcastle International to Wroclaw on May 20 through Ryanair is selling for the incredibly cheap price of £19. So if it sounds good to you, here's a breas down some of the city's top attractions.

Raise a glass in the Rynek

Grab a meal with a view at the historic market square of Wroclaw - which is jam packed with restaurants, cafes and bars alike. The colourful and bustling social hub is surrounded by towering buildings, gorgeous architecture and an atmosphere like no other, so why not chow down on some Polish dishes like Pierogi, Bigos, Zurek or Flaki while you're in town?

Go gnome spotting

Yes, you read that right. Wroclaw is home to a population of statue gnomes which are scattered all over the city. First blessing the streets of Wroclaw in 2005, these 20-30cm figurines have grown in number over the years - with more than 600 in the city back in April 2019.

See one of world's most stunning town halls

Wroclaw's Old Town Hall stands tall in the heart of the Market Square, and constructed in the 13t century, it is one of the city's main landmarks. Still used for civic and cultural events, this bustling Gothic building also boasts a brilliant Great Hall, museum and a basement restaurant.

Take a day trip to the Church of Peace

So it may be a little way away from Wroclaw, but a day trip is certainly worth seeing Swidnica's Church of Peace. The largest wooden Baroque temple in the whole of Europe, this UNESCO World Heritage site is equally impressive inside and out. The magnificent exterior is like something which could only be dreamed up in a fairytale, while the hand breath taking main altar, antique organ, glorious galleries and collection of paintings on the inside are enough to arouse the interest of anyone - religious or not.

Visit the zoo

Discover more than 1,000 species at Zoo Wroclaw and its Madagascar Pavilion, Odrarium, Terrarium, Zoolandia ropes course, Children's Zoo and Ranch. You can expect to see manatees, okapi, bears, deer, monkeys, long-necked turtles and much, much more at the zoo, while the organisation also hold various educational sessions for children and teenagers.

The site also plays host to the biggest oceanarium in the whole of Poland.
