Victoria Beckham books Mel C for extravagent New Year's Eve party

Remember how Posh and Sporty decided they had far better things to do than hook up with the Spice Girls again earlier in the year?

Well, it doesn’t sound like a reunion’s on the cards at any time in the next 10 years or so.

Victoria Beckham has shown the world exactly where her loyalties lie – by booking old pal Melanie Chishom to perform at her and David’s lavish New Year’s Eve bash in the Maldives.

42-year-old Mel C showed a distinct lack of enthusiasm for rejoining the girl group a few months back, and Victoria decided she was far too busy with all of that fashion stuff to get back on stage and belt out ‘Wannabe’ for the umpteenth time, too.

‘Scary’ Melanie Brown was clearly a little bit put out, even telling James Corden that the pair were ‘b****es’ for ruling out a reunion on his TV chatshow. In the end Mel B, Emma Bunton and Geri Horner formed spin-off group GSM, with a BBC talent show rumoured to be in the pipeline to find a couple more members.

Anyway, it seems like Victoria wasn’t exactly itching to get GEM on the bill, and called up Melanie Chisholm instead. Oof!

“Victoria has been the instigator for the whole trip. She’s sorted all the accommodation for both families and ensured Mel is there to perform,” a source told The Sun.

“They’ve always been great pals, but have got closer over the past few months due to their shared stance on the Spice Girls comeback.”

Speaking earlier in the year about her decision to turn down the chance of another reunion, Mel C said: “For me the absolute pinnacle of my Spice existence was being watched by a billion people around the globe belting out Spice up Your Life on top of a black cab at the 2012 London Olympics.

“Anything less than the full line-up just didn’t feel like we’d be doing justice to the band or the fans.”

But Mel! The reason it wasn’t the full line-up was because….. oh, forget it.
