Victoria Derbyshire has said she would like to take part in Strictly Come Dancing, but worries her role on Newsnight might get in the way.

The 54-year-old newsreader and journalist became joint lead presenter on the BBC current affairs show alongside Kirsty Wark in 2022 but would still like to dabble in reality TV.

Derbyshire told Woman and Home magazine: "If I get asked to do Strictly – which I honestly don't think I will be – I'd totally consider it. I'm not sure if it would be the right thing to do because I do Newsnight."

She added: "But hey, I did I'm a Celebrity two years ago, and now I'm doing Newsnight and people are cool with it. People are less likely to put you in boxes these days. "

The TV presenter appeared on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2020, when it was held at Gwrych Castle in north Wales due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Derbyshire was diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and underwent a mastectomy, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

She said she and her partner of 17 years, TV producer Mark Sandell, decided to get married in 2018 after she was declared cancer free because they wanted to have a party.

She said: "Mark totally stepped up. He was incredible. He did everything to look after me and the boys.

"We got married after I got the all-clear. We wanted to have a massive party and celebrate with our boys, Mark's daughter – my stepdaughter, Lizzie – and with our family and friends'. It was amazing."

"It’s one of the best jobs in British journalism & I can’t wait to champion more stories about people’s lives while holding those who represent them to account."
