Victoria series three: When is it on? What will happen and where does it pick up?

Victoria is back!

The popular period drama is set to return to screens for a third epic series, with Jenna Coleman reprising her role as Queen Victoria, which she previously hinted may be her last outing, while Tom Hughes has returned as Prince Albert.

Series three is set in 1848 during the events of the French Revolution and King Louis Philippe’s journey to England in a bid to secure safety.

The Peoples’ Charter takes centre stage leaving the monarch fearing for the stability of her country.

Away from politics, Victoria is in the midst of marital issues and battling post-natal depression following the births of her children.

The latest instalment of the show is expect to explore the “turbulent and uncertain time” for Victoria and Albert.

The show is expected to see Victoria under intense pressure from the government to flee London for her safety amid the uncertainty in the country.

According to Radio Times, show creator Daisy Goodwin said: “Victoria and Albert are the most famous couple of the nineteenth century, but underneath the united facade, their relationship is at breaking point and it is a struggle for mastery that neither side can win.”

Who is in it?

A handful of new faces have joined series three, with some proving a challenge for Victoria. Laurence Fox joins as Lord Palmerston while Kate Fleetwood will play Victoria's very little known about half sister Feodora. Lily Travers has also joined the cast and will play Duchess Sophie Monmouth, whose husband is played by Nicholas Audsley.

When is it on?

Viewers will be treated to eight visually-stunning episodes as part of the latest series, with each running for an hour. All of the action kicks off tonight at 9pm on ITV.
