Artist Uses Irish Castle as Canvas Ahead of Gay Marriage Vote

Artist Joe Caslin used a castle close to Ireland’s west coast as a canvas to encourage a “yes” vote ahead of the country’s referendum on same-sex marriage. Caslin, who had previously erected a piece of guerrilla artwork in Dublin city center advocating a yes vote, used Galway’s Caher Castle as his canvas for a piece showing two females in a loving embrace.

This video shows the installation process and features the two women that are seen in the mural. The music is by Irish artist Roisin O.

The results of a opinion poll released a week out from the vote suggest the right to marry will be extended to same-sex couples. Homosexuality was decriminalised in Ireland in 1993.

If the referendum passes, Ireland would become the first country in the world to allow same-sex couples to marry thanks to a popular vote. Credit: Vimeo/Joe Caslin
