Australian Networks Refuse to Run 'Titanic' Ad Against Same-Sex Marriage

Two of Australia’s biggest television networks have refused to air an ad opposing same-sex marriage. The ad, by the Marriage Alliance group, features a doomed ship heading towards an iceberg and states that same-sex marriage isn’t “as simple as you think.”

“It’s time to step back and consider all the issues around same-sex marriage – like how it will affect children, or sex education in schools, or even what rights you could lose,” the ad states.

A spokesperson for Marriage Alliance said she was disappointed by the networks’ decision and viewed it as a freedom of speech issue.

A spokesperson for Network Ten, one of the networks that refused to air the video, told the Sydney Morning Herald , “As company policy, we do not talk about our commercial arrangements, out of respect for our advertisers.” Credit: Marriage Alliance
