Brawl in Turkish Parliament

At least five lawmakers were injured when a brawl broke out in Turkey’s national assembly late on Tuesday, February 17, Today’s Zaman reports. Tensions in the legislature were running high throughout the day as opposition members attempted a filibuster to block a controversial security bill. The bill would give Turkish authorities greater search and arrest powers.

The altercation took place during a closed session; however, Mahmut Tanal, an opposition MP with the Republican People’s Party (CHP), who was reportedly hit during the brawl, captured some footage of the incident. Credit: YouTube/Mahmut Tanal
