California's I-10 to Re-Open Friday After Bridge Collapse

A section of I-10 where a bridge collapsed amid heavy rain in California is set to re-open on July 24. A new Caltrans video shows the extent of the damage to the bridge on the stretch of the highway that connects California and Arizona. The highway has been closed since the bridge collapsed on July 19 as heavy rain triggered flooding across Southern California.

Transportation officials will divert traffic from eastbound side of the highway to the westbound side. The eastbound bridge is the section that collapsed. The eastbound bridge will remain closed as workers continue to make repairs and rebuild the bridge.

More than five inches of rain fell in the desert in Riverside County on July 19, which triggered the bridge collapse. One vehicle was caught in the collapse, and the driver suffered moderate injuries. Credit: YouTube/Caltrans District 8
