Celebrations as Burundi General Declares Coup

People in the Burundian capital of Bujumbura celebrated on Wednesday, May 13, after an army general announced a coup against the country’s president. General Godefroid Niyombareh announced that the army were no longer recognizing Pierre Nkurunziza as president, Reuters reported. Nkurunziza is seeking a third term in office, the legality of which has been questioned by his opponents.
