Cyclone Lam Batters Nhulunbuy With Harsh Winds

Tropical Cyclone Lam brought heavy rains and strong gusts of wind as it approached Australia’s Northern Territory on Wednesday, February 18. Sustained winds reached 120 km/h with gusts of up to 165 km/h, according to the Bureau of Meteorology. The cyclone was forecast to move northwest at 13 km/h as of at 1:57 pm local time on February 18.

Public shelters in the Top End of the Northern Territory were opened for coastal residents in Elcho Island, Cape Shield and Nhulunbuy who faced a potentially dangerous storm tide, according to Sky News.
