Doubts Voiced Over Nemtsov Arrests

On Sunday, March 8, Ozaur Dadayev and Anzor Gubashev, both of Chechen origin, were charged at a Moscow court with the killing of opposition leader Boris Nemtsov near the Kremlin on February 27. Russian media reported that Dadayev had admitted his involvement. Three other men were also arrested.

On March 9, however, a close ally of Nemtsov, Ilya Yashin, tweeted that investigators were pursuing a “nonsensical theory” about an Islamist motive for the killing, in order to take President Vladimir Putin “out of the firing line.” Credit: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty
