Douglas County Sheriff Confirms Fatalities in Oregon Community College Shooting

Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin told a media conference on October 1 that the suspect in the Umpqua Community College shooting was killed following an exchange of gunfire with police officers. Hanlin said there had been injuries and fatalities in the shooting but would not confirm numbers.

Hanlin said that at about 10.38am, Douglas County emergency services received reports of an active shooter in one of the classrooms at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.

Officers went to the college, located and engaged with the shooter, Hanlin said. There was a exchange of gunfire and the shooting threat was “neutralized.”

Oregon Governor Kate Brown said the shooter was a 20-year-old man. Credit: YouTube/nrtoday
