As Economy Recovers, Irish PM Says He Wants to See Emigrants Return Home

Speaking in a St Patrick’s Day message, Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny said that, with the country’s economy recovering, he wanted to see the return home of thousands of young people who had emigrated in recent years.

“We need them at home,” he said. “They are the new wave of entrepreneurs, innovators and job creators that we need to secure recovery.” He said that 2016 would be “the year when the number of our people coming home will be greater than the numbers who leave.”

Kenny has spent the St Patrick’s Day period in the US, where he led the annual parade in Atlanta on March 14, and was scheduled to meet with President Barack Obama on March 17 at the White House. Credit: YouTube/Merrion Street
