Ecuador Keeps Wary Eye on Cotopaxi Volcano

Ecuadorean officials said on Tuesday, August 18, an actual eruption of the Cotopaxi volcano could put 325,000 people at risk. A flyover was canceled on Tuesday due to poor weather. Cotopaxi blasted ash seven miles into the air on Friday, August 14, and has been venting small clouds since then. Ecuador declared a state of emergency on Saturday.
