Eurozone Ministers Arrive in Brussels for Extraordinary Talks on Greek Bailout

EU finance ministers arrived in Brussels on Friday, February 20, for unscheduled Eurogroup negotiations geared towards agreeing a new six-month extension to Greece’s eurozone loan. Talks collapsed earlier in the week when Greece deemed the EU’s conditions tied to continuing financial aid unacceptable. The current deal is due to expire at the end of the month and Greece could run out of money if a new agreement is not reached.

However, the Syriza party rose to power in the recent elections on the back of promises to end austerity, while Eurogroup chiefs seek assurances that the agreed reform programme will continue. Credit: European Council
