Hundreds of Refugees March From Turkey's Edirne to Greek Border

Nearly 1,500 Syrian refugees who have been camped out in Turkey’s Edirne for several days set off on foot to the Greek border on Friday, September 18. On Wednesday, Edirne’s governor said that they would have to leave the region located on the Bulgaria-Greece border and return to refugee camps or their hometowns by Friday and would not be allowed to continue their journey to Europe.

Determined to make their way to Greece, refugees set off along the highway connecting Turkey with Europe on Friday, where they were met by riot police.

These videos show Syrian refugees held up by police on the highway at Edirne and trying to break through the barricades. They were filmed by members of a local Muslim youth group, who told Storyful that the refugees originally came from Istanbul. Credit: Facebook/ Edirne İslam Gençliği
