Israel Demolishes Stores in East Jerusalem Refugee Camp

Bulldozers escorted by Israeli forces demolished some 20 Palestinian-owned stores in the east Jerusalem Shuafat refugee camp on December 3, according to reports. Israeli forces claim that the buildings were built without the necessary permits.

A 2013 report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said demolitions had increased in east Jerusalem compared to previous years, and that “most Palestinians are forced to build without a permit to meet their needs.”
