Maori Dancers Give Prince Harry Traditional Powhiri Welcome in Whanganui

On Thursday, May 14, the sixth day of his tour, Prince Harry visited Whanganui on the North Island’s west coast where he received a traditional welcome at Pūtiki Marae involving speeches, dancing, singing as well as the traditional Maori nose-rub, known as the hongi.

In the afternoon, Prince Harry will sail on a waka, a Maori canoe, up the Whanganui River and meet with Whanganui locals. Harry’s uncle, Prince Edward, taught at Whanganui Collegiate in the 1980s, according to Radio New Zealand. Credit: Twitter/Kensington Palace
