March in Arequipa Supports Peru Anti-Mine Protesters

Protesters took to the streets of the southern Peru city of Arequipa on May 12 in solidarity with opponents of a proposed copper mine in the region. Two people, a protester and a police officer, died in clashes over the Tia Maria mine, which opponents say risks damage to the environment and local agriculture.
