Mexicans in New York Protest President Enrique Peña Nieto

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto was greeted with chants of “Asesino” (“Murderer!”) by protesters as he left his hotel Sunday morning for the opening of the Summit of Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women at the United Nations. The protesters held a vigil for the 43 student teachers kidnapped last year in Guerrero state before the protest, which condemned the president for the government’s handling of the investigation.

The students at Ayotzinapa Rural Teachers’ College went missing on September 26, 2014, after they were taken into custody by the Iguala police while on their way to protest at a conference organized by the Iguala mayor’s wife, María de los Ángeles Pineda Villa.
