Obama Says Same-Sex Marriage Ruling 'Big Step Towards Equality'

The Supreme Court in a landmark ruling on Friday made same-sex marriage legal across the US. The 14 states in which such marriages remain illegal, in the South and Midwest, must now lift their bans. The court’s 5-4 ruling is the culmination of decades of campaigning by gay-rights activists.

Following the ruling, President Barack Obama said from outside the White House, "Gay and lesbian couples now have the right to marry, just like anyone else.
