Owner of Famed Greek Protest Sign Speaks Out

It has become one of the most recognized symbols of the Greek anti-austerity movement, so much so that the rock band U2 flash it on a giant screen nightly on their current tour of the United States and Canada. The symbol, a simple handheld sign reading “Unfuck Greece,” is a staple at demonstrations outside the Greek parliament in Athens.

Speaking ten days out from a potential Greek default, the owner of the sign, Panagiota Bleta, told a photojournalist at a pro-government demonstration that Europe should give Greece “a good deal.”

Greece needs a deal “that will respect its people” and “allow economic development,” she added. Credit: Twitter/Mehran Khalili
