Police Officers Injured in Clashes With Normalistas in Mexico

11 police officers were reportedly injured after they stopped a group of Normalistas – people protesting against the reform of rural, Normal schools – from travelling from Tixtla to Chilpancingo on September 22. The incident happened at a tunnel that has been the location of previous clashes.

The Normalistas were making their way to Mexico City, reportedly to protest ahead of the one-year anniversary of the disappearance of 43 students in Iguala, Guerrero.

After being stopped from entering the tunnel in their buses, the Normalistas reportedly set a vehicle in the tunnel on fire. These videos show the clashes on the road near the tunnel. Police appear to use tear gas against the protesters, who throw objects in return. Credit: Facebook/Yo SI Soy Ayotzinapa
