Police Seize Illicit Tobacco in Western Sydney

New South Wales police seized thousands of packets of illicit tobacco with an estimated street value of AU$190,000 (US$138,850) from nine shops in the western Sydney suburbs of Campsie and Hurstville on Thursday, August 20. The 1,476 cartons of cigarettes (approximately 14,700 individual packets) were part of an illegal cigarette trade which a police spokesman said was “robbing the economy of millions of dollars every year”.

Police also seized 57 glass pipes, which they described as used for smoking illicit drugs, from one of the tobacconists in Campsie.
