President Kenyatta Burns 15 Tons of Ivory to Mark World Wildlife Day

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta burned a 15-ton pile of elephant ivory to mark World Wildlife Day on March 3. At the ceremony in Nairobi National Park, Kenyatta also vowed to destroy Kenya’s remaining stockpile of seized elephant ivory by the end of the year.

“In order to underline our determination to eradicate poaching, my government shall burn the rest of the stockpile that we have within this year,” Kenyatta. “Many of these tusks belong to elephants who were wantonly slaughtered by criminals. We want future generations of Kenyans, Africans and indeed the world to experience the majesty and beauty of these magnificent animals.” Credit: YouTube/Hands Off Our Elephants
