President Obama Welcomes Pope Francis to White House

President Barack Obama welcomed Pope Francis to the White House on September 23 on the second day of the pontiff’s visit to the US. Obama welcomed Francis, saying that the “size and the spirit” of the gathering in the White House Garden reflects the devotion American Catholics. Obama and Francis then spoke to the media inside the Oval Office, before holding a private meeting.

There was some controversy regarding a question from a reporter to the pope in the Oval Office: The White House Pool Report clarified that the woman had asked Francis to say something about “migrants” and not “negroes”. Credit: YouTube/The White House
