Protesters in Kabul Demand Justice for Woman Killed by Mob

Hundreds of protesters marched through the streets of Kabul on March 23, calling for justice for a woman who was publicly lynched on March 19 after workers at the city’s Shah-do-Shamshira shrine accused her of burning a copy of the Koran. According to reports, the woman, Farkhunda, was overheard denying that she burned the book as she was publicly beaten in the city center.

During the ordeal, the mob reportedly beat Farkhunda, stamped on her, drove over her, and finally dragged her body down to the banks of Kabul River and set on fire. Credit: YouTube/Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty
