Protesters March in Chicago Over Fatal Police Shooting

Protesters demanding justice for the fatal police shooting of black teen Laquan McDonald took to the streets of Chicago on Tuesday, November 24, after prosecutors released dashcam footage of the incident. Jason Van Dyke, a white officer, was charged with murder on Tuesday and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said he had been fired. Demonstrators chanted “How many shot? 16 shot.” in this video.

Emanuel, in a statement on Facebook, said Van Dyke “took the law into his own hands” and that his actions did not reflect the dedication and professionalism of Chicago police officers.

McDonald, who was 17, was shot 16 times. Police said he had brandished a knife.
