Record year for Russian arms sales

Overseas sales of military hardware by Russia topped the 11 billion euro mark – a record figure and surpassing all forecasts by around half a million euros.

Russian news agencies quoted President Vladimir Putin as saying the country’s defence industry also sealed export contracts worth another 11.3 billion euros for 2012.

The news confirms Russia as the world’s second arms exporter after the U.S.
