Soldier Killed in Bujumbura as Police Fire on Protesters

A soldier was killed in Bujumbura on May 20 when he was hit by a bullet fired by police on a crowd of protesters, according to local reports. Police reportedly opened fire on crowds who had gathered in opposition to President Pierre Nkurunziza’s move to run for a third term. Nkurunziza made the decision to push back parliamentary and local elections until June 5 as a result of the protests.
