Surge Knocks Out Power in Washington, DC Area

A power surge knocked out power throughout the Washington, DC region, including at the University of Maryland. That didn’t stop one professor from continuing class, which is seen in this video. Authorities said the power surge was caused by an explosion at a Maryland power facility, according to the Washington Post.

Smithsonian museums on the National Mall were evacuated, and federal buildings, including the White House, were running on back-up power. DC Metro subways were still running. Credit: Instagram/Doug Kerr
