Syrian Rebels Seize Control of Mastumah Army Base

The al-Nusra Front, an al-Qaeda-affiliated Syrian rebel group, seized control of the al-Mastumah army base and the nearby town in Idlib on May 19, according to reports. The attack by al-Nusra and its allies lasted several days and took place on several fronts, with government forces withdrawing from the area on May 19. This video shows the town of al-Mastumah and the base after they were seized by al-Nusra.

The al-Mastumah base, between al-Mastumah and Arihah, was formerly used by the Baath Vanguards, a Baathist youth organization. The group’s logo is seen on the outer walls of the camp in the video. Credit: YouTube/binnish.revolu
