Thousands Wait in Line for Pope's NYC Mass

Thousands of New Yorkers lined the streets around Madison Square Garden to gain entry for Mass with Pope Francis on Friday, September 25. Mass was scheduled for 6pm with people queuing hours beforehand in order to pass through security in time. Similar long lines were around Central Park as people waited to gain entrance to a papal parade.

Pope Francis’ six-day trip to the United States is his first. In New York on Friday, he spoke at the United Nations and visited the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum for an interfaith prayer service.

Francis arrived on September 22 in Washington, D.C., where he visited the White House and addressed a joint session of Congress. He wraps up his trip in Philadelphia this weekend where he will attend the World Meeting of Families. Credit: Instagram/Michael DeVellis
