Tornado Strikes Rockford as Severe Storms Move Through Illinois

A tornado ripped through Rockford, Illinois, on Thursday, April 9, as thunderstorms hit eastern and northern parts of the state. The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch and a severe thunderstorm warning for multiple counties in Illinois, warning people around the Midwest to beware of adverse weather and a large and extremely dangerous twister.

ABC local sheriff saying the twister has caused significant damage in Rochelle and surrounding areas. A separate report quoted the Illinois Office of Emergency Management saying one person was killed in Fairdale, Illinois, when the storms moved through the Chicago area.
