US Ambassador to Ukraine Reflects on Maidan Demonstrations

US Ambassador to Ukraine Geoff Pyatt visited Kiev’s Honchar Museum where he reflected on the Euromaidan demonstrations in Ukraine that saw the ousting of former President Viktor Yanukovych and the killing of more than 100 people. Pyatt speaks of his memories of the movement in a video released on February 20.

Ambassador Pyatt said, “I was in the Union building with Senator McCain and some of my colleagues, seeing all of those hundreds of thousands of lights out on the stage was overwhelming, was certainly the emotional high point. But then also the moments of darkness, the day after the police attempted to clear the maidan in early December, and those terribly dark days of February”.

“But through it all, what I will always remember, of course, is the extraordinary courage and resilience of the Ukrainian people. Their insistence on choosing their own future, their determination not to be bent down and their resolve to build a more hopeful and democratic future for themselves and their children”, said the ambassador.
