The seventh-generation BMW M5 goes plug-in hybrid. The result is much more power and also much more weight.
The 2025 BMW M5 marries a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 with an electric motor housed within the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission driving all four wheels.
Total horsepower is 717, and peak torque is 738 pound-feet.
BMW says the new M5 hits 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. Top speed is 190 mph with the optional M Driver's package.
There's also an all-electric driving mode that's good up to 87 mph. EV range is a projected 25 miles.
The all-wheel-drive system includes a rear-biased 4WD Sport mode, as well as a 2WD mode that operates with the DSC system off.
An adaptive M suspension is standard, as is four-wheel steering.
The 2025 BMW M5 will make its public debut in July at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Sales of the 2025 BMW M5 will start late in the year.
