Viewers call Pooch Perfect's doggy makeovers 'blissful escapism'

Sheridan Smith’s new BBC series Pooch Perfect UK couldn't have come at a better time. Think MasterChef, Bake-Off or Glow Up, but for dog groomers; which of course means rather than it being pork loins, cupcakes or smokey eyes that the contestants have to whip up... it's doggy makeovers!

At such a stressful and tumultuous time, viewers are heralding it as the escapism we all need. A healthy dose of the warm fuzzies.

Debuting on BBC One on Thursday 7 January the weekly show sees 16 professional dog groomers show of their skills under the watchful eye of experts Colin Taylor, Verity Hardcastle, and vet Bolu Eso.

Sheridan hosts the show joined by her own pup Stanley. The eventual winner will receive the grand prize of the 'Golden Stanley' statue.

One viewer wrote: "OK it’s pretty grim times in the world but #poochperfect is the perfect antidote. @Sheridansmith1 is absolutely electric and full of natural humour,"

While another said: "I know all the education stuff on the BBC is important, but as I don’t have kids, putting a joyful show about competitive dog grooming with @Sheridansmith1 on BBC One in this week of hell is frankly the work of angels #poochperfect"

And another encouraged everyone to watch; "Cannot put into words how much I enjoyed #PoochPerfect on BBC1. It was a blissful hour of very cute escapism. You should all watch."

And if that doesn't convince you to watch, one keen viewer Tweeted: "My favourite bit is when the dogs on the dog walk spot their humans and get all excited and the humans wave at them #poochperfect"
