TYLER, Texas (KETK) – A candlelight service was held on Tuesday in honor of a 7-year-old girl who died in a car crash last week in Tyler.

The community came together to honor Laiyah Mitchell at Dixie Elementary School. Mitchell’s family said they have felt the love and support from their community across East Texas, showing them the big impact their little girl left behind.

Dorathy Anderson, Mitchell’s mother, said strangers have reached out sharing similar tragedies.

Anderson told KETK that she wants people to remember her daughter’s memory.

“She had to be sent here to spread love, that was the biggest thing. She never met a stranger, it was always aunt, uncle, cousin, even if she just met you. She just loved people, she was always helpful, she just wanted to love and be happy,” Anderson said.

Mitchell’s older sister was also injured in the crash and is still in the hospital.

A GoFundMe was started to help support her family. People can donate here.
