A vintage London Underground train will return to the tracks after being vandalised. The restored 1938 train should have travelled on the Piccadilly line on Sunday, June 9, between Acton Town station and Oakwood station, but the criminals left the service cancelled.

But next month the Art Deco-style train will be available for a ride for a whole weekend - July 20 and July 21. Tickets cost £28.50 per adult, £20 for a child, and £15 for those aged four to 17. You can book tickets here.

The two-day event serves to celebrate the 120th of the Metropolitan line - which runs between Aldgate and Amersham/Uxbridge. Ticketholders will receive a souvenir factsheet and meet a costumed actor playing the pioneer in station architecture, Charles Holden, who designed both Acton Town and Uxbridge stations.

According to the London Transport Museum, the 1938 Tube train was the first to have all of its electrical equipment underneath the floor. This type of train served London for around 50 years.

Elizabeth McKay, Director and CEO of London Transport Museum told IanVisits: “Following the vandalism to our historic 1938 Tube Stock train earlier this month, a team of specialists from the Museum and London Underground have been working hard to restore the exterior of the vehicle.

“We’re pleased to say that thanks to their hard work and expertise, our heritage journeys in July, August and September will run as planned. We’re incredibly grateful to our customers for their understanding and look forward to seeing the train back out in operation on the Tube over the summer for people to enjoy.”
