Violent Johnstone thug found with £550 of cocaine in his boxer shorts is jailed

A violent Johnstone thug who failed to carry out his community service and was found with £550 worth of cocaine in his underwear has been jailed.

Aaron McMillan had previously been sentenced to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work after assaulting a man on May 29, 2022, at Linwood’s Clippens Inn.

McMillan acted alongside others when they reined punches on his head and body and stamped on his body causing him injury.

McMillan, of Auchengreoch Circle, and his pals also attacked another man on the same night and repeatedly punched and kicked him on the head and body causing him to lose consciousness.

The attack left him severely injured and with a permanent disfigurement. Two of McMillan’s accomplices received jail sentences while Sheriff Thomas McCartney imposed a “direct alternative” on McMillan.

But the 21-year-old’s thuggish behaviour continued when cops turned up to his home with a drug search warrant on September 29, 2023.

The brute shouted threats of violence and assaulted PC Wilkie as he was trying to arrest him. Once the thug was arrested and taken to Greenock police station cells, officers found 23.4g of cocaine, a Class A drug in his boxers.

The procurator fiscal depute told Paisley Sheriff Court: “Police attended at the accused’s property in possession of a search warrant.

“All individuals were informed of their detention under the Misuse of Drugs Act and taken to the living room and at this point the accused began shouting and swearing.

“He was asked to desist several times but continued his conduct uttering threats of violence including, ‘Where the f***k is Aldo Kerr? He’s getting it for this. I know him, I know where he f*****g stays, his family stay in the circle and I’ll be seeing him, I’ll be giving him a square go'.

"The accused was arrested and handcuffs applied but he continued to shout and swear at officers stating, ‘You’re getting done in too'. The accused took hold of PC Wilkie’s wrist grabbing it tightly before scratching it causing a cut.

“During the course of the custody search, it was discovered the accused had concealed two polythene bags of cocaine in his underwear weighing 9.5g and 13.9g. If purchased these would cost around £550, the accused made no reply to caution and charge.”

Defence agent Ruth Wallace told the court McMillan has been struggling with his health and, as a result, has little memory of the incident, stating: “He has been having unexplained seizures and is subject to medical examination to get to the bottom of what’s causing them.

“The seizures have been affecting his memory, his memory of these events is hazy and he struggles to recall matters. He accepts these are deplorable incidents and his behaviour is unacceptable.”

Sentencing Sheriff Thomas McCartney slammed McMillan, stating: “There are two matters for sentencing and both involve violence. In each case, injury was caused and one is on an indictment where two of your co-accused received prison sentences, but with you I found a direct alternative and ordered you carry out 160 hours of unpaid work.

“Those have not been done therefore you have breached the order and carried out this other act of violence. You have rendered yourself as unsuitable for unpaid work; for that, I consider there is only one appropriate sentence of imprisonment.”

Sheriff McCartney revoked McMillan’s unpaid work hours and sentenced him to eight months in jail. For the matter where he was arrested at his home and drug possession, he was jailed for three months.

McMillan was jailed for a total of 11 months with Sheriff McCartney stating: "That is much less of a sentence if you were an older person." As he was led away to the cells, McMillan stated: “Wit the f**k is this about man?”
