Virgin River Season 5 Part 2: The Burning Questions We Need Answered

After five seasons, Netflix is finally showing fans what Christmas is like in Virgin River — which, thanks to the snail’s pace at which time progresses on this show, was only possible through the magic of a time jump.

And what good is a time jump if it doesn’t throw a little mystery into the mix? Virgin River hit fans with a doozy at the end of Part 1, revealing that Mel’s mother had an affair with someone in town, and that he could very well be Mel’s biological father.

So, who is this geographically convenient man? That’s just one of several questions we’re asking as we look ahead to Part 2 of Season 5, which hits the streamer on Thursday, Nov. 30.

Netflix has released a trailer for the two-episode holiday event, and while it did tease several intriguing developments to come, it also left us with — you guessed it — more questions! In addition to Mel’s paternity, we’re also wondering about one character’s possible pregnancy, another’s potential prison sentence, and the likelihood of several new relationships lasting to see New Year’s Day.

Read on for the burning questions we need answered when Virgin River returns for Part 2 in November. When you’re done, drop a comment with your own additions to our list. You’re also welcome to venture an answer to any of the below. Wild speculation is our favorite game.

Is Lizzie really pregnant?

Is Lizzie really pregnant?

We were 50/50 on whether Lizzie was actually pregnant at the end of Part 1, but her chat with Hope in the trailer (“What if I can’t handle it and I’m not a good mom?”) has us thinking otherwise.

UPDATE: Three days ahead of Virgin River‘s return, a sneak peek at Part 2 revealed that Lizzie is definitely pregnant.

Will Ricky come home for the holidays?

This one feels like a long shot, but considering Ricky’s basic training was scheduled to end in December, it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility that the holiday episodes could gift us with at least one awkward Ricky-Lizzie-Denny moment. God bless us, everyone.

Is Brie still into Brady?

Just when we were starting to get used to the idea of Brie being with Mike, and Brady with Lark, along comes the magic of the holiday season to (potentially) throw everything into chaos. Cure you, mistletoe!

Who is Mel’s father?

Who is Mel’s father?

Does it feel ridiculously convenient that Mel’s mother’s secret lover happened to have been someone who lived (and still lives) in Virgin River? Absolutely. But we’re willing to suspend our disbelief for the show’s sake. What we’re not going to accept, however, is if her biological father turns out to be Doc. One man can only have so many secret offspring.

Is Charmaine saying goodbye?

Is Charmaine saying goodbye?

Jack and Mel have been itching to get Charmaine out of their lives from the jump, and we have to imagine that she’ll want to put some distance between herself and Calvin once the twins are born in Part 2, so we can’t help but wonder… is this the last we’ll see of her? Given that she’s no longer tethered to any of the show’s central characters, it does seem like a reasonable time for Charmaine to put Virgin River in her rearview mirror once and for all.

Is Preacher going to prison?

Is Preacher going to prison?

Characters with big hearts tend to get screwed over on Virgin River, and Preacher’s got one of the biggest hearts of all, so of course the FBI is opening an investigation into Wes’ death now that Preacher’s life is finally in a good place. Here’s hoping Paige shows up and takes full responsibility for what happened, because #PreacherDeservesBetter.

Will Doc get a Christmas miracle?

We can’t remember a time when we’ve been this invested in a TV character’s eyesight, but we’re really pulling for Doc as he enters these clinical trials for his degenerative condition. This show could use a little more good news after everything the characters suffered through in Part 1.

Are Muriel and Cameron still going strong?

A lot can happen in a few months, so we’re dying to know if Muriel and Cameron’s office romance managed to weather the time jump. Seriously, the only thing in Part 1 hotter than the wildfire was the sexual tension between Virgin River’s new it couple. Ow-ow!
