Waitrose has launched an online card to help those self isolating during the coronavirus pandemic organise payment for shopping with volunteers, family or friends.

The e-card will be ideal for those shoppers who cannot leave their homes to get groceries and provides them with a safe and easy way to pay for their shopping.

Speaking about the new scheme, Bérangère Michel, Executive Director of Customer Service at the John Lewis Partnership, said: "We are pleased to be able to support our customers and the nation’s brilliant army of volunteers during these unprecedented times. Local communities have really rallied around those unable to get to the shops themselves and we want to make it as simple as possible for kind-hearted volunteers to get essential groceries to them."

The card can be bought online at johnlewisgiftcard.com in £10 denominations up to £500. Isolating customers can then email the e-card to the person doing their shopping. Physical gift cards can also be bought in-store or online and posted to customers to give to their volunteer themselves.

This is the latest initiative the store has put in place to help customers during the pandemic. Others include reserving the first hour of every day for the elderly, vulnerable, their carers and NHS staff, as well as priority access to online shopping deliveries for elderly and vulnerable customers.
