The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has unveiled a full trailer, along with news of the show being renewed.

During a Walking Dead panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday (July 21), it was announced that Daryl Dixon and Dead City — starring Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan — would both be getting second seasons.

The six-episode first season of the Walking Dead spin-off show will see Norman Reedus's badass hero Daryl washing ashore in France with no idea how he got there.

As Daryl treks across a post-apocalyptic France searching for a way home, he comes across new allies — including a mysterious religious order and Harry Potter's Clémence Poésy as Isabelle — who force him to change his original plan to get home.

It's through this religious order that Daryl gets his mission to take a young boy called Laurent on a perilous journey through Provence in order to ignite "the revival of humanity". Luckily, he's reunited with a crossbow before hitting the road.

The series will also feature The Terror and Chernobyl's Adam Nagaitis as Quinn, a former nightclub owner who wields unspeakable power in the post-apocalyptic landscape.

Longtime fans will remember that the setting of France is going to be very important to the future of The Walking Dead, as it's where the so-called smart-zombies first appeared in the franchise.

The Walking Dead director Greg Nicotero has already promised that the Daryl Dixon series will defy the expectations for anything fans have seen in the franchise before.

"This is probably the closest to a standalone show you will ever get. The goal isn't just to see Daryl in exotic and new locations, but to explore a wholly different world," Nicotero told Entertainment Weekly.

"This is definitely not more of the same. Our show introduces new characters, new themes, and is an exciting extension of the genre that will delight people who love this kind of storytelling and crave more."

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon premieres on September 10 on AMC in the US. A UK broadcaster has yet to be announced.
