The Walking Dead bosses confirm Breaking Bad is set in the same universe

AMC has seemed to confirm that The Walking Dead is a sequel-of-sorts to Breaking Bad.

A tiny Easter Egg featured in the latest episode of spin-off series Fear the Walking Dead has convinced viewers that it's set in the same universe as the meth drama starring Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul.

The moment arrived when Madison (Kim Dickens) and Qualtega (Michael Greyeyes) entered the market. The more attentive of fans would have heard the song “Negro y Azul: The Ballad of Heisenberg” playing in the background, the same track which featured in Breaking Bad season two

According to Digital Spy, Fear the Walking Dead showrunner Dave Ericksen confirmed its intentional placement: “I tried to be subtle with it. That was probably the moment when I fell the most deeply in love with Breaking Bad, when they did that cold open music video.”

As we were looking for pieces to incorporate into this world, it had the right vibe to it,“ he continued. ”It's a gentle nod of admiration and adoration to [Breaking Bad creator] Vince Gilligan.

The strangely convincing idea that Breaking Bad is a prequel to The Walking Dead - something referred to as 'The Breaking Dead Theory' - has been around for a while with some believing Walter White's Blue Sky to be the true cause of the walker outbreak.

The Walking Dead season 8 begins next month.
