The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus gets a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame

Star of The Walking Dead Norman Reedus has been honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

He paid tribute to his wife, German actress Diane Kruger and his "beautiful family" as he was honoured on the iconic walkway in Los Angeles, for creating a home environment that "is so joyous and fun every day".

Reedus has been a mainstay in the cast of long-running zombie drama as Daryl since it began in 2010, and has recently completed filming the show's final scenes.

The 53-year-old was joined at his ceremony by former Walking Dead actor Jon Bernthal, and Greg Nicotero, a prosthetics expert and director, who both delivered speeches about their colleague.

"Wow, I did not see this coming ever. Thank you for the lovely speeches," he said before his star was unveiled.

"My mom is here, thank you for putting up with me for all these years. I know it wasn't easy.

"Then passing that baton, Diane, I love you so much.

"Thank you for giving me a beautiful family, a home environment that is so joyous and fun every day."

He also described his children Nova and Mingus as "the proudest thing I've ever done".

Not only is Reedus an accomplished actor, also starring in projects such as The Boondock Saints, Blade II and the video game Death Stranding, he has also modelled for top fashion houses such as Prada and Levi Jeans.

He is also a photographer, director and artist, as well as being a best-selling author, restaurateur, publisher, and entrepreneur.

His star is the 2,734th on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and can be found at 6600 Hollywood Boulevard by Hollywood Toys & Costumes.

Reedus is preparing to leave The Walking Dead as the show comes to an end, before starring in a spin-off.

During a break in filming last year, he told Sky News: "It's been such a big part of my life, this show and living out here in Georgia (where the show has been filmed since 2010), I kind of go home to New York on my vacation time.

"So I don't know. I'm trying not to think about it. I know it's going to happen."

The final season of The Walking Dead is streaming now on Disney+.
