The Walking Dead's Andrew Lincoln lands role in ITV thriller with Trainspotting star

Andrew Lincoln, famed for his role in The Walking Dead, is set to star in the new ITV thriller Cold Water.

The announcement came today (June 27) from ITV Drama, revealing that the series has been greenlit and will be penned by the award-winning playwright David Ireland, with production by Sister.

Andrew will portray John, a character grappling with repression and a sudden mid-life crisis.

His journey begins after he fails to intervene in a violent incident, which triggers an identity crisis, leading him to leave London for the seemingly tranquil Scottish town of Cold Water. However, his search for peace quickly spirals into something far more sinister.

Joining the cast are Ewen Bremner of Trainspotting fame, Doctor Who's recent guest star Indira Varma, and Eve Myles from Hijack.

Creator David shared his thoughts: "Cold Water started with a question I was asking myself.

"Where do I want to live - the countryside or the city? Such an innocent beginning, but from it came this dark, funny, twisted thriller."

He expressed his delight at Sister's enthusiasm for the script and his excitement over ITV's decision to commission the show.

"And I'm amazed we've managed to attract such a peerless cast, led by the formidable Andrew Lincoln. I hope viewers will find it intoxicating."

Andrew's new project sees him take on the lead role of John in the upcoming thriller series.

John strikes up a close relationship with neighbour Tommy (Ewen) after relocating to Coldwater but learns that Tommy is hiding "horrifying secrets".

"It's only after a series of unsettling incidents start to occur that John begins to wonder who the real Tommy actually is," the synopsis continues.

"And when John's long-repressed rage comes to a head with disastrous results, he soon finds himself unexpectedly indebted to his new friend."

Further casting info will be revealed at a later date with filming expected to start before the end of the year.

The Walking Dead's Andrew recently reprised his iconic role as Rick Grimes in The Ones Who Live - marking his first appearance since leaving the hit show in 2018.
