The stars of The Walking Dead have been out in force hyping up the season finale.

Norman Reedus (Daryl) recently compared the episode to Braveheart, while Lennie James (Morgan) said that he "jumped up and down like a giddy schoolboy" when he read the script.

By all accounts, it sounds like a fist-pumping end to the season, but Lauren Cohan – who plays Maggie – used a very different word to describe it.

"Heartbreaking."

Do we need to get the tissues ready?

"You're certainly in for a lot of emotion," she told Harper's Bazaar. "Incredibly bittersweet, beautiful, and heartbreaking."

There's been a lot of speculation about Sasha's future on the show.

Actress Sonequa Martin-Green has landed a new gig as the lead on Star Trek: Discovery – and narratively Sasha has not found herself in a good situation right now, currently in Negan's captivity.

Whatever happens, it doesn't look like the season finale will end in a Negan-type cliffhanger.

"Though it promises more – because there is a whole lot to get to – there is an ending," said showrunner Scott Gimple.

The Walking Dead airs on AMC in the US and on FOX in the UK.
